Grants in Action | 2025/2026 School Year

In October 2025, 25 Perrysburg High School students had the exciting opportunity to attend the Ohio Scholastic Media Association (OSMA) Regional Workshop at Bowling Green State University, thanks to a grant provided by Perrysburg Schools Foundation. This experience allowed students to step beyond the classroom and engage directly with professionals in media, communications, and publications. Through interactive sessions led by industry experts, they gained hands-on experience in journalism, design, storytelling, and digital communication—skills that will serve them well in school and beyond.

The workshops offered more than technical training; they inspired collaboration, creativity, and confidence. Working alongside peers from other schools encouraged students to share ideas, embrace new perspectives, and see themselves as part of a larger community of young media creators. As freshman journalism student Maddie Prater shared, “I think it’s important for Journalism students to attend conferences like this because it gives us an opportunity to work in a real-world environment, which makes us feel more confident and appreciated for our work. We got to go out and choose what topics we wanted to learn about to improve our skills and it left an outstanding impact.”

Connecting with local professionals and mentors was another highlight, giving students valuable insight into careers in media and communications. These real-world interactions helped them envision future college and career pathways while strengthening their readiness to pursue their goals. Thanks to this grant, Perrysburg students expanded their skills, networks, and confidence—preparing them to become the next generation of creative communicators.
