ACT Prep Seminar for PHS Students

For the last three years (2022, 2023, and 2024), Perrysburg Schools Foundation approved a grant to fund an ACT Prep Seminar for 100 students in grades 11 and 12 at Perrysburg High School (pictured above).

The seminar was designed to provide quality instruction and resources to students and to assist them in preparing for the ACT. Students who attended the seminars received six hours of intensive, engaging, in-person instruction. Each student also received a 400-page workbook, an outline of test-taking strategies, a 5-week study plan, and online access to sample test questions.

Students who completed the seminar shared that they found the information to be valuable and they felt better prepared to take the ACT.

Math Camp for 4th Grade Students
During the 2023/2024 school year, Perrysburg Schools Foundation made a three-year commitment to fund the Bowling Green State University (BGSU) Math Camp for fourth grade students. This camp is held in the spring for students who will be moving into fifth grade.

There are two major objectives for the experience: to provide an experience promoting the love of math and to provide an opportunity for current fourth grade students to experience an event at their next school – Hull Prairie Intermediate School.

Math Camp is an active day of teamwork, problem solving, and skill development. Each camp is designed by the pre-service teachers of the Bowling Green Council of Teachers of Mathematics (BGCTM) with oversight from BGSU’s mathematics education faculty. Aligned with the Ohio Learning Standards for Mathematics, BGCTM pre-service teachers work with each school’s liaison to identify specific areas of mathematics needs for the students in order to design a worthwhile and focused camp experience.

Joe Sarnes, Director of Elementary Teaching and Learning, shared: “Students love Math Camp because it brings math to life in a fun and energetic way. Through hands-on problem solving, teamwork, and real-world connections, fourth graders engage with math in ways that are exciting and meaningful. With songs, games, and plenty of silliness, the camp atmosphere makes learning feel like an adventure, sparking a love for math that stays with them. The camp is so popular that it fills up quickly each year! Due to high demand and a long waiting list, the Perrysburg Schools Foundation expanded the camp to two sessions last year, allowing about 140 fourth graders to participate.”
