Grants in Action | 2023/2024 School Year
Kraig Bentley, Band Director at Hull Prairie Intermediate and Perrysburg Junior High Schools, saw a need for more work in small groups for student musicians. He requested a grant for $15,000 to bring in professional musicians to work with students. The number of students who benefitted from these clinician visits this school year is about 400.
“The goal is to help anyone who is behind as well as push the students to that next level of their education,” shared Mr. Bentley. “Since we have such large classes at HPI, these small groups are an absolute necessity for us to continue the success that we have experienced in band. These professionals are able to help address areas of our curriculum where students are not reaching the expected level. With additional focused attention, students are able to learn at a faster pace.”
In a separate grant, Perrysburg Junior High School requested $2,000 to assist in meeting the cost of bringing in additional sectional instructors to work in specialized small groups as the band prepared for Ohio Music Education Association competition and holiday concerts.
The Perrysburg Schools Arts Council is charged with suggesting areas of funding from the Perrysburg Schools Foundation and its Campaign for the Arts that supports the visual and performing arts through student discovery, student experience, program growth and program sustainability.
