Grants in Action | 2023/2024 School Year
Mr. Michael Smith requested a $4,000 grant from Perrysburg Schools Foundation to bring in guest clinician Bill Bitter for each of the six orchestras at Perrysburg High School, a total of 190 students on violin, viola, cello or bass. Bill Bitter taught orchestra at Highland High School in Gilbert, Arizona for over 40 years. His orchestra program at Highland High School is one of the top high school orchestra programs in the country.
“This has been an awesome experience for the students,” Mr. Smith explained. “With this project, we were looking to increase string specific skills, techniques, intonation and overall musicianship of all student musicians in high school orchestra. This was a critical component as students prepared for the OMEA Large Group State Orchestra Competition.”
The Perrysburg Schools Arts Council is charged with suggesting areas of funding from the Perrysburg Schools Foundation and its Campaign for the Arts that supports the visual and performing arts through student discovery, student experience, program growth and program sustainability.
