Grants in Action | 2023/2024 School Year
During the 2022/2023 school year, Perrysburg Schools Foundation approved a grant that allowed 27 female students to take part in the Ruling Our Experiences (RoX) Program.
The mission of RoX is to “create generations of confident girls who control their own relationships, experiences, decisions and futures.” It is a research-based program that is designed to influence female students to assert control over their choices within peer relationships, future aspirations (while knowing no limits) and confidence in themselves to develop as people of influence within their school community and as they grow into young adults.
RoX is tailored to meet the unique social-emotional needs of girls coming of age during the present day, covering topics of body image, academics, confidence, dating relationships, friendships, leadership, social media, self defense and managing stress. The program is led by school district employees who are trained RoX facilitators, and family involvement is encouraged.
Justin Fults, Director of Student Services and Well-Being, shared: “The research that the RoX program is built upon demonstrates the need for strong female mentorship, the development of intrapersonal and interpersonal skills and confronting challenges that are unique to girls. RoX is truly innovative in that it delivers a solution specific to the needs of our female students across several age groups. Our team is proud to take RoX to another level in ‘23-’24 by extending the offering to three more schools throughout the district.”
RoX sessions have already begun this school year. Female students in grades 4-11 that are interested in taking the program next school year are encouraged to contact their school counselor.
